Testimonials
Here is a selection of our previous clients’ responses to our training. We would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who has contacted us about their experiences on our training courses. If you have a story to share with us, please get in touch!
Thank you RUdeafaware for delivering informative, interesting,
interactive, inspiring and invaluable training.
The Disability Conciliation Service is all about communication. We work
with people in person, on the telephone and in writing. In just 2 hours
our group learnt a lot and gained valuable insight that will inform our
future dealings with Deaf and deaf people.
We experienced first hand the difficulties of lip reading, saw pictures
of brains showing the different areas of the brain involved in listening
and watching. Our questions were answered as we went along. That the
trainer was Deaf and used translators emphasised for participants the
points she was making.
We were given a very useful booklet summarising the course content. At
the end of the training we learnt to clap in BSL!
- Meredith Freeman, Disability Conciliation Service (DCS) Conciliation Coordinator
As you are aware, I attended this course back in February, primarily because I have a deaf team leader now working for me, and I thought that by improving my understanding of this subject matter, that it would greatly help our working relationship.
On attending the course, I found it interesting, fascinating, and a very enjoyable day. I felt that I could quite confidently deal with any eventuality, and it made me interested in taking my learning further.
On returning to work, I was so impressed by the course that I asked for it to be rolled out to the Helpline immediately, and recommended that it be rolled out across the Commission at a later
date.
I would highly recommend your course to any workplace because it was fun whilst learning. I also felt that I had achieved something worthwhile at the end of the day.
- Phil Hamilton, Equality Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Helpline Service Delivery Manager.
“The Disability Rights Commission continually seeks to identify opportunities to improve the skills and knowledge of the advisers on its Helpline. We talked to Jonathan about the deaf awareness training which his company, RuDeafAware, provides and felt that the variety of activities covered and the ability to tailor the training to the needs of our team were what we were looking for. We wanted to avoid awareness training which ‘preaches’ to delegates. It was clear that Jonathan intended his training to be great fun as well as informative, and we liked his approach to the issue of deaf awareness. Jonathan made it clear that advisers would be made to feel comfortable to ask whatever they wanted to know about the issues facing deaf people.
Our instincts about RuDeafAware were right. After delivering 6 days of training to 37 DRC Helpline advisers, the feedback from all delegates was unanimous in its praise for the training. All advisers found the training to be very enjoyable as well as having significantly improved their levels of awareness of the barriers which can face deaf people. The following comment was typical of the feedback from the advisers:
'The course was excellent. A relaxed atmosphere while covering the objectives. I thoroughly enjoyed it. When can we have more?'
We have no hesitation in recommending the training to other organisations who want to improve the awareness of their staff around the experience of deaf people, and thereby improve the quality of the service they offer to deaf people.”
- Kate Waugh, Disability Rights Commission (DRC) Helpline Contracts Manager
“I am very impressed with the course we have received from RuDeafAware. The course is a fantastic insight into Deaf Awareness and a number of the attendees have fed back that they wish to continue learning BSL. The course really makes you think of how you communicate with people with hearing impairments. The staff are very professional yet friendly and approachable. I am so pleased with RuDeafAware’s service; I will be using them again in the future to deliver courses to more staff and volunteers at the club.”
- Nicola Rigby, Bolton Lads & Girls Club
“Alison and I had a private lesson with Michelle, in addition to the full BSL 1 course we had been attending for the year 2006/7. The tutorial was incredibly helpful, the one to one attention improved my confidence before the exam and I got the best mark I'd had for any of the modules. Michelle is extremely patient, she thinks of creative ways to learn/games to play, and she is very encouraging. It was such a good experience that I've already signed up for Level 2 and begin in 3 weeks.”
- Alexandra Hawley
“I would like to thank you for helping me with my tuition prior to my BSL level 1 exam. I found it most beneficial and it enabled me to enter the exam feeling confident and well prepared. Your approach to teaching BSL made my understanding of the language easier to grasp. Again many thanks for all your support. With thanks!”
- Terri Dawson
“I found Michelle's private lesson absolutely invaluable in the run up to my level 1 exam. It gave me the one to one practice that I needed. Michelle worked with me to build my confidence, highlighted my strengths and weaknesses and left me with a clear plan of what I needed to do to ensure a pass. I would highly recommend her private lesson to anyone studying BSL.”
- Gail Rennie
“Michelle was an excellent tutor always totally committed to her class, encouraging all the way through. Michelle's personality made learning level 1 fun and interesting with the aid of games and handouts every week. Prior to my Level 1 exam Michelle gave me private tuition on a one to one basis which I found invaluable , it really helped my confidence and prepared me thoroughly. I passed Level 1 comfortably - many thanks to Michelle. I am now taking my BSL Level 2 at Chester College on her advice. Many thanks!”
